Better eggs start in the gut

Clean, strong eggs – naturally improved

Phytogenic feed additives, derived from plant extracts, essential oils and whole plants, have gained considerable interest in recent years thanks to their natural and environmentally friendly profile. Certain plant components offer antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects – bringing clear benefits for animal production. These include improved health, performance and reproductive success.

Natural defence – tested, trusted, effective

One phytogenic with proven bioactivity is Anta®Phyt. Standardised in-vitro tests have confirmed Anta®Phyt’s antibacterial action against common pathogens in livestock production, including Staphylococci, Streptococci and Clostridia. In practice, poultry supplemented with Anta®Phyt show drier litter, fewer footpad lesions, less diarrhoea and better feed conversion.

Why gut health matters for egg quality

A well-functioning gut is essential for effective digestion and nutrient absorption. In laying hens, disturbances in the intestinal microbiota (also known as dysbiosis) can damage the gut lining and reduce calcium uptake. The result: weaker eggshells and more dirty or broken eggs. Improving the balance of the gut microbiota has several positive effects: better gut structure, fewer sticky droppings, and improved litter quality. This, in turn, lowers the risk of egg contamination or damage.
