Norwegian Marine Pioneer Triples Production Capacity with State-of-the-Art Vanvikan Expansion
ShareShareShareShareShare

CFEED, the world’s leading producer of live hatchable Acartia tonsa copepod eggs for marine aquaculture, yesterday officially opened its groundbreaking expanded production facility in Vanvikan, Norway. The major investment in cutting-edge technology and sustainable production methods positions CFEED at the forefront of the global aquaculture revolution, addressing the industry’s growing demand for natural, high-quality live feed solutions.

Revolutionary Impact on Marine Aquaculture

The expanded facility represents a significant milestone in marine aquaculture, with production capacity more than tripling to meet rapidly growing global demand for copepods as live starter feed. CFEED’s Acartia tonsa copepods have been recognized by hatcheries worldwide as the optimal nutritional solution for fish larvae, offering superior growth rates, improved survival, and minimal environmental impact compared to traditional alternatives.

“We’re not just scaling production – we’re enabling the industry to achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and sustainability,” said Tore Remman, CEO of CFEED. “Today’s visit from the Ministry of Aquaculture of Norway and the opening of our expanded facility mark a new milestone for CFEED and the global aquaculture industry. Our technology and sustainability not only strengthens Norway’s leadership in marine innovation but also supports healthier, more sustainable fish farming worldwide,” said Tore Remman, CEO of CFEED..

Technology-Driven Innovation

The new production line introduces revolutionary microalgae cultivation technology that enhances sustainability while maintaining the highest quality standards.

“The major technological breakthrough in our new production line is how we produce microalgae in a more controlled and sustainable way,” noted Linn Baardsgaard, Director of Sales & Marketing. “This allows us to maintain the exceptional nutritional profile that makes our copepods so valuable to hatcheries worldwide.”

About CFEED

Founded in 2014 by marine biologists from SINTEF Ocean, CFEED has pioneered the commercial production of live hatchable Acartia tonsa copepod eggs for marine aquaculture. Headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, CFEED operates the world’s first large-scale copepod production facility in Vanvikan. The company leverages decades of research and development to provide hatcheries worldwide with natural, nutritious, and sustainable live feed solutions. With proven expertise across more than 15 marine species and a growing customer base spanning Nordic, European, and Asian markets, CFEED continues to lead the global transformation of marine aquaculture toward more sustainable practices.
