A Glance at Taiwan’s Livestock Market
Livestock related output accounts for 30% of Taiwan’s total agriculture production. In 2018, Taiwan boasted a total worth of 17.5 billion USD annual agriculture production. The share of livestock is contributed by 13,341 livestock farming enterprises, which are only 1.72% of total farming population. Livestock agriculture in Taiwan is considered as a high-value industry, however the pressure of labor shortage has been a severe issue. To cope with it, Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture has launched programs since 2018 to provide 100 million USD of subsidy to encourage livestock farmers to upgrade their facilities, equipment, and to implement integrated technology. With increased production efficiency, and lower labor costs. Taiwan’s livestock industry remains as vibrant and competitive as ever in the international market.
Reports show that Taiwanese people consume an average of 35 – 39 kg of pork per year, and only less than 10% of pork is imported. The Council of Agriculture has implemented another program with over 80 million USD of subsidy to encourage pig farmers to bring their facilities up to date for modernization and sustainability. Currently, there are a total of 6,759 pig farms in Taiwan and a total of 5.5 million pigs among these farms. In order to update their facilities, there will be a demand for automated feeders, automatic environmental control systems, and sustainable production systems. It is the prime opportunity to introduce new products into Taiwan livestock industry.

Taiwan – A Gateway to ASEAN Countries
With the close ties between Taiwan and ASEAN countries, it makes Taiwan Smart Agriweek a mutually beneficial place for both international exhibitors and buyers. Here international exhibitors can meet not only local Taiwanese buyers, but also ASEAN market buyers. In view of Taiwan’s advantage of highly developed AIoT intelligence and precise livestock breeding technology, the show creates the perfect platform to develop a complete livestock management system with Taiwan’s ASEAN partners.
Taiwan is a versatile market that has gained attention from international companies such as Big Dutchman, GSI Swine, MOBA, SKOV, Kyowa, Alltech and Nabel. Once the pandemic calms down, September is the optimal time to tap into a profitable new market. Don’t miss out!
