FRA C12 offers a practical solution to reduce the use of antibiotics in poultry production. FRA® C12 possesses unique antimicrobial and antiviral properties and is applied to suppress the negative impact of Marek’s disease, Newcastle disease, infectious bronchitis, and avian influenza.
Restrictions on therapeutic use of antibiotics have led to increasing demands for antibiotic-free animal feeds worldwide. Because of this, feed additives with antiviral properties experience strong growth. To improve the health status of farm animals, organic acids are widely used. At a low pH, they can enter and kill pathogenic cells by disturbing vital cell processes. But now, research has shown that alpha-monoglycerides have an even much stronger antimicrobial effect compared to conventional organic acids.
Based on these alpha-monoglycerides, FRAmelco has developed FRA C12 as a practical approach to improve health and performance of farm animals. To explore the added value of alpha-monoglycerides, a recent study compared the effects of Lincomycin, an antibiotic, with FRA® C12 on broiler performance. Results showed an improved weight gain and lower FCR compared to control groups. Suggesting FRA® C12 is an excellent replacement for antibiotics.
Results show improved FCR with FRA® C12 for both dosages. FCR improved by 0.04 in the starting period and even by 0.07 in the grower-finisher period for the FRA® C12 diet with an application of 2kg/1000 L compared to the antibiotic Lincomycin. In addition, FRA® C12 showed to have a positive effect on the animal’s immune response, thereby reducing the risks of secondary infections and decreasing the negative impact of infections on growth performance.
